The Big and Long Walks
Parts of the Big and Long Walks are on exposed ground and subject to poor visibility and bad weather conditions. Basic navigational skills are therefore necessary. All participants must carry the following equipment: waterproof top and trousers, spare clothing, hat, gloves, whistle, compass, O.S. map Landranger 80 or equivalent, first aid kit, food for the day, emergency food, survival bag, mug (drinks provided at refreshment points). Stout footwear (boots or good quality trainers) should be worn. Equipment will be checked at registration. Anyone who is inadequately equipped will not be allowed to start.

The Family Walk
The Family walk is mainly along well defined paths and forest tracks.

General
All entrants who retire must report to the nearest checkpoint to arrange official transport to the finish, and MUST in any case report to the finish. In past events great concern has occasionally been caused by entrants going straight home having failed to report to the finish. Every entrant who satisfactorily completes the course will be awarded a certificate. Event T-Shirts are available to purchase. Camping is available at Clennell Hall which is situated about 1 mile from Alwinton
