Alwinton Summer Concerts

The organisers of Alwinton Church Summer Concerts 2014 and its Artistic Director John Casken are delighted to announce the details of our exciting summer

Tickets will be available from the beginning of March 2014, either online via this website, or in person from The Congregational Galley, Rothbury. In the meantime, please note the dates in your diaries.

We are also pleased to announce a National Composers' Competition. Three scores will be selected for a workshop in Alwinton Church on Saturday 31 May and the winning work will be performed by members of Psappha in their evening concert, and in a future concert to be given by the ensemble in Manchester.

Alwinton is a remote, rural village in Upper Coquetdale, Northumberland, and the concert series has established itself as one of the major cultural events in the North-East of England. The church is set apart from the village and surrounded by beautiful and dramatic landscape.

PSAPPHA's concert will include Stravinsky's own arrangement of music from The Soldier's Tale, John Casken's Winter Reels, and Peter Maxwell Davies' Eight Songs for a Mad King. Three scores will be selected for a workshop in Alwinton Church on 31 May after which the winning work will be chosen for performance.
