Arundel Players

Our members present a varied programme of productions throughout the year, including one for the Arundel Festival, all in the unique Priory Playhouse.

The Arundel Players were exiled from Arundel for several years because there was no suitable venue in the town. We always hoped we would be able to return to the town, and in 1977, thanks to our then president, the late Lavinia Duchess of Norfolk, we were able to obtain the lease of the western wing of the 13th century Priory. The building was in a very dilapidated condition and members raised several thousands of pounds in order to convert it into the theatre you see today. A number of famous theatrical personalities helped us by financial sponsorship.

Hundreds of hours of voluntary work have gone into achieving our ambition of having a properly equipped theatre of our own. Over recent years, the bar, dressing room, wardrobe and technical area have all been refurbished. The Priory Playhouse is a special theatre and it is thanks to our members that it stays that way.
