Proposed protection and preservation of the Highhouse horralls and engine-house as relics of our mining heritage locally, Ayrshire-wide, and further afield
On the 5th.November,2015, the Auchinleck Highhouse Horralls Association was formed, aiming to protect and preserve the Highhouse horralls and engine-house for the future. On that date, eleven folk signed up to pay a £5 yearly subscription to support the association. By the end of the year another 22 folk had signed up, part of a management committee was formed with a volunteer chairman, a volunteer secretary and a volunteer treasurer.
Sooner, rather than later, we hope to have more supporters and more volunteers for the management committee.
Our aims are:- to fence off the site, restore and maintain the horralls, restore & maintain the engine-house with the steam engine inside, provide information-boards, and have the engine-house available for visitors.
