Bawdsey Hall
Suffolk's secret hideaway Bawdsey Hall was built in the early 1700's by the Tollemache family as a hunting lodge. The hall has a vast history and has been owned previously by the Quilter family who originally built Bawdsey Manor. The family of Edith Cavell aslo lived here for a period of time. The Suffolk Punch are also linked to the hall as we believe this was the place of the original Bawdsey Stud. Alfred Lyttelton is also believed to have stayed here during his annual holiday with his dog 'Poll' who unfortunately was drowned in the River Deben nearby.
During the war the property was taken over by the military as army headquarters and was linked with the infamous Bawdsey Radar station. Rumours are that Churchill did stay here for a very short time.
