Beairteas Bharraigh is a new organisation set up to replace and continue the work of Barra and Vatersay Agricultural and Horticultural Association and Barra and Vatersay Island Produce Show.
The aims of this organisation are to:-
To increase sustainability and promote and improve local skills in traditional activities such as growing, gardening, cooking, crofting, fishing, spinning, knitting, crochet and other crafts in an inclusive, accessible and affordable manner thus upskilling the local community as well as providing learning opportunities for visitors to the area;
To promote local food production and utilise local resources by providing areas for growing as well as access to machinery and equipment for the local community;
To encourage reuse, and recycling in the community and sharing of resources to reduce waste;
To hold shows and other events to demonstrate, celebrate and reward local skills, crafts and produce for all ages and members of the community.
Project continuing under this banner include Croitear Òg, Barra Bunting, Island Markets, Island Produce Show, Local food map and local produce logo.
