A fledgling Permaculture smallholding and sustainable business on the Black Isle in Northern Scotland.

Black Isle Permaculture & Arts is an umbrella business for a range of income generating activities taking place at our micro-smallholding.. We are a start-up Permaculture site and ScotLAND Learner, based on the Black Isle, 8 miles north of Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland. In August 2015 we (Clive & Julie) moved to a bungalow with 2.5 acres of land and are in the process of establishing a Permaculture garden for food, wood fuel, habitat, leisure, accomodation and education. Our aim is to become a domestic smallholding where we are able to live a creative, sustainable and resilient lifestyle by Permaculture principles: a place where people can visit, stay, learn from and be inspired by an example of an organic smallholding incorporating a home based economy and resilient business plans with an ecoretrofitted house, art studio, woodland camping huts, kitchen garden, forest gardens, orchard, woodland and meadows.

Our vision is for Black Isle Permaculture & Arts to become a model for rural sustainable living which incorporates a ‘permaculture-smallholding’: generating poly-income streams through eco-tourism,
education and courses, sustainable cottage industries (e.g. selling produce and crafts at local community and farmers markets) and creative outcomes. We plan to host volunteers (E.g. WWOOFers) to help with projects and learn about all aspects of sustainable homesteading and Permaculture. We aim to use Permaculture principles in our business approach which can be summarised as:
