Traditional barbering with a nautical twist.
It all started back in June 1962. Rossendale salon owner Tony Winder became an apprentice barber to Les Howarth Master Barber, Haslingden, Lancashire. Tony later went on to work at a number of Rossendale salons before joining the Merchant Navy as a ship’s barber.
The talented hairdresser did five world cruises on passenger ships, where he enjoyed the view while also cropping a few customers hair mid-ocean.
A couple of seasons followed as ‘camp’ barber at Butlins in Minehead and Filey.
Owner Tony then returned to Rossendale and opened his first salon Antony & Patricia in 1969 aged just 22.
Tony has since retired from hairdressing, packing away his scissors and comb back in 2010. However, with barbering in his blood, a hoard of traditional barbering memorabilia stashed away in the attic, and too much spare time on his hands he decided there was still more he wanted to achieve.
Reminiscing back to his barbering days on the oceans, and the revival of traditional barbering (and the beard!) the concept of Bosun's Barbers was born. Tony set about restoring his collection of barbers chairs and enhancing the Antony & Patricia stylists team with classic barbering skills.
Bosun's Barbers is located on the Upper Deck, Antony & Patricia, Bank Street, Rawtenstall
