Castle Cary Fire Station is located on Church Street Castle Cary and covers the town of Castle Cary and its surrounding villages. It covers an area of approximately 60 square miles and has a population
of almost 8119. The station covers the council wards of Castle Cary and Bruton.
The Station Commander has overall responsibility for the station. The fire station houses a fire fighting appliance and a long wheel based Land Rover. The station is crewed on a retained duty system basis with an establishment level of 12 personnel made up of 1 Watch Manager, 2 Crew Managers and 11 fire fighters. The staff are also the main asset in undertaking a range of Community Safety (CS) activities that are primarily aimed at preventing fires in the first instance and deaths and injuries in fires.
The Station area includes a mixture of demographics, with at one end the lower scale socio-conomic
groups, and smart private dwellings at the other. It spans social housing (many privately owned by
registered landlords) and private housing
The station area is home to a range of risks that is predominantly rural but includes risks associated with the local road network including the main A303 and a main rail link from the Southwest to London.
