Chalkdell Cottage is a small, self catering holiday cottage situated in a terrace of Grade II listed dwellings, built of local stone by quarrymen, originally for their own use. The cottage is believed to have been built over 200 years ago and is in the Herston Conservation area which is one of the oldest parts of Swanage.
The beach, town and coast path are all within easy reach of the cottage - approx one mile. Within a few minutes walk are two convenience stores, a fish and chip shop, an Indian restaurant and two pubs. There are bus stops nearby for buses to Corfe Castle, Wareham, Poole and Bournemouth.
Monkey World, Lulworth Cove, Shell Bay, Durdle Door and Studland are all worth a visit and are not far from Swanage.
The cottage is centrally heated and has a small, cosy lounge with comfortable seating, gate-leg dining table, TV-DVD combi with freeview stations, a VCR and a CD/radio/cassette player.
There are local guide books, reading books, videos and DVD's for you to use. The split level kitchen is very well equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher, ceramic hob, built in oven, fridge, microwave, slow cooker etc.
The bathroom is on the ground floor and has a shower attachment over the bath.
Upstairs the main bedroom has a very comfortable double bed, two pine bedside cabinets, a pine wardrobe, a pine chest of drawers and a linen cupboard.
Through the adjoining door is the smaller bedroom which has two bunk beds, two wardrobe cupboards and a pine chest of drawers.
There are toys and games in the smaller bedroom, a small portable DVD player, a CD/Radio and a good selection of easy listening CD's in the double bedroom.
To the rear of the cottage is a small south facing patio garden with flower beds. There is a picnic table and bench for you to enjoy eating outside on sunny days. In the shed are a few toys, buckets and spades, fishing rod etc.
Parking close to the cottage is good with plenty of on street parking in quiet roads near the cottage.
From the front windows of the cottage are really beautiful views across grazing land to the Purbeck Hills. A short walk across fields or along the nearby lane you will find Herston Halt, a tiny station on the Swanage Steam Railway line where you can hail the train for a ride to Corfe Castle or into Swanage town centre.
Swanage in the Isle of Purbeck is the ideal base for your holiday.The area has many local attractions including indoor and outdoor activities.
Purbeck has something to offer for everyone - award winning beaches, beautiful countryside, coastal walks, cycling , etc. There is so much to see and do.
The town has a good selection of shops ranging from small gift shops to two medium sized supermarkets.The following banks have branches in the town: Lloyds TSB, Barclays, HSBC and NatWest. There are two Post Offices in the town. The main Post Office is located in the town centre and a small Sub-Post Office at Herston, near the cottage.
Swanage has a wide range of tourist attractions, The Steam Railway, Durlston Country Park, Victorian Pier, Public swimming pools, Tennis courts, Indoor & Outdoor bowling greens and between Swanage and Studland is a large golf course.
Monkey World, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Shell Bay and Studland are not far from Swanage and are well worth a visit.
The area has many miles of footpaths and bridleways making it the ideal place for walkers, cyclists and horse riders to explore.
