The Aquarium @ Cockfields Farm & Open Farm
It’s hard to imagine a sack of potatoes could lead to the North West’s leading aquatic store but that is exactly what happened at Cockfields ……. selling potatoes at the front gate in 1966, to fruit and vegetables in part of the chicken shed and, in 1999 selling a few goldfish. This then led on to selling tropical fish and, in 2004, marine fish and corals.
Within a few years the business had outgrown the existing building and so a larger building on site was knocked down and a purpose-built building erected. Not only do Cockfields still sell fruit and vegetables, tropical fish and marine fish & corals but they have also expanded the coldwater section and, in 2009, branched out into pond fish reptiles and the petting farm!
