The present day society was formed in 1948. The founder members included Geoff Amos, George Crump, Harold Hatfield, Jim Holt, Berrill Inett and Hector Tulett.
Prior to this there was a horticultural society in existence in the late 1800s. In one way or anther, the town has had a horticultural society for over 100 years.
The Society is run by an elected committee whose aim is to encourage the practice of horticulture and assist its members in such direction.
Events organised for members include spring, summer, autumn and annual flower shows, trips to gardens of interest and social evenings.
For further information about the society, or if you are interested in becoming a member, please contact secretary Val Jancey via this page.
