Events and open days are run by the Friends of Wythenshawe Hall. We are raising money to restore and refurnish this beautiful hall. #wythenshawehall #fowh
Until 2010 the hall was managed by Manchester Art Galleries and had a variety of furniture and paintings on display. As the Hall was virtually empty when the Friends group set up, we have worked tirelessly to raise funds to enable us to buy pieces of reproduction furniture. Our most recent success was in securing funding for our living history project "Open House at Wythenshawe Hall" in which we will deliver a training package to our volunteers and local apprentices and provide educational workshops to local schools.
Alongside this we are restoring the Chapel Bedroom and have ordered a beautiful hand carved four poster bed, and we are now working on the soft furnishings. We have made a large number of Tudor outfits for our volunteers to wear on open days and also be displayed on mannequins.
Once we have the Tudor bed and the crib in the room we have the two main items to restore the Chapel Bedroom to the way it would have looked in Tudor times. We can then add further pieces to our collection, giving the house an authentic look but enabling people to actually have a hands on experience when visiting our interactive story palace.
