Green Candle has over 25 years' experience of taking dance directly to those with least access to it.
It was formed as a full-time company in 1987, and is a registered charity and company limited by guarantee, supported by a voluntary Board of Directors who are also the Trustees. The company, since its formation, has had a commitment to a dynamic partnership between performance, education and participation. The company has actively sought to challenge the conventional boundaries of dance and dance performance by creating performances, workshops, residencies and projects specifically for non-conventional performing spaces, including schools, day centres, sheltered housing, residential homes, hospitals, and site specific spaces. The company is an industry leader in dance in education, community and health care settings. It is well known and highly regarded for its innovative work with both deaf and hearing children and young people, elderly people, people with disabilities and socially excluded communities who traditionally have had little or no access to dance performances and participation.
The company is at the forefront in developing and delivering training programmes for dance practitioners, teachers, those working with the elderly, and in disability and health care to develop their skills in using dance within a variety of settings.
