Our rose Beef calves come from a selection of local dairy farms where there calves would normally be culled after birth. We keep them on average 8 months to produce a very tender and tasty rose veal young beef.

Wagyu, originally from japan are now very popular in America and Australia and are now Increasing in Britain.

Wagyu meat is arguably the Finest beef you can buy and is well known for the high marbling of fat. It has a higher level of Mono Unsaturated fat than traditional beef. This fat renders as it cooks and helps to baste the meat, leaving the most succulent tasty steak you could imagine.

Later this year we will Have Wagyu x Aberdeen Angus beef for you to try. All will be clearly marked as Pure Wagyu or Cross.

There are many website online that just say Wagyu but when you eventually find the small Print you will find that they are Crossed with Another breed even a dairy breed.
You will also find Websites saying Kobe beef which cannot be correct as it must be raised in Japan’s Hyogo Prefecture according to rules as set out by the Kobe Beef Marketing & Distribution Promotion Association.

So you can be sure that on this site The Wagyu is 100% Wagyu unless other wise stated
Since processing our first Wagyu we felt Obliged to sample all cuts” and its not only the steaks that sizzle”
The Rose Veal calves we have raised so far are Holstein Friesian and Ayrshire dairy bull calves. They have proved good producers of tasty low fat pink meat. These calves have no purpose to a dairy famer and were destined to be culled not long after birth.

They are reared indoors in groups in our new purpose build shed. They have plenty of room to run about in their large straw bedded pens. The calves are fed the best quality feed and fodder.
The mixed grain feed we use is produced at the main family business L.S.Smellie & sons Ltd, Grain Merchants, Strathaven Rural centre, Strathaven.
It is our best quality and best selling cattle feed.

The calves are reared to 8 months on average then professionally butchered.
To keep ourselves even busier we have been taking in orphan Spring lambs from local farmers which will appear in the shop soon.
All our animals are processed and packed by two well know Lanarkshire butchers – Coopers of Bellshill and D & J Rodger High Blantyre.

Currently all frozen for sending out but demand is increasing and soon we will advise previous customers on our mailing list when we have fresh and can then supply their needs..

We also keep Quail, Hens and Ducks. Their eggs are available from the door step.
Quail produce little speckled eggs which have a high nutritional value, really tast with a light creamy texture. Lovely fried or boiled and added to a salad.

Try adding a little Curry powder to mayonnaise and stir in a few boiled Quail eggs. A little treat at BBQ time!!
