Former home of the Lake Poets, Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Robert Southey. Self catering holiday accommodation in the heart of the English Lake District

'Perhaps the finest single spot in England.'
Robert Southey

'I question if there be a room in England which commands a view of mountains and lakes and woods superior to that in which I am now writing.'
Samuel Taylor Coleridge

'During a space of just over forty years besides being the home of the greatest literary genius and the greatest man of letters, it was the meeting place of most of the literary men and women of that brilliant period.'
H. Howe

Former home of Lake Poets Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Robert Southey, Greta Hall is now a family home and three extremely comfortable self-catering accommodation wings and one en-suite bed and breakfast room.

Frequented by William & Dorothy Wordsworth, Lord Byron, Keats, Shelley, Sir Walter Scott, Sir George & Lady Beaumont, De Quincey, Dr. Arnold, Sir. John Stuart Mill, Robert Owen, William Wilberforce, Ruskin, Humphrey Davey, Lamb and Hazlitt.

More recently, Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon visited Greta Hall as part of their brilliant BBC series The Trip. If you have not yet had a chance to see the episode featuring Greta Hall, please visit The Trip - Greta Hall

Greta Hall offers unexpected seclusion close to Keswick town centre and is an ideal base for literary scholars, walkers, cyclists, families and historians. Anyone wanting to relax and enjoy the Lakes.

A large garden and untamed woodland with river frontage surround this fine Georgian house. The structure of the house has changed little since the early 1800s - except some significant additions to the plumbing and heating systems! All restoration work has been carried out sympathetically using traditional materials.
