"Guy Masterson Productions" was formed in 1991 as "Boy's Own Productions" and, after a decade, expanded into "Theatre Tours International Ltd".
Over the past 20 years, Guy Masterson & Theatre Tours International have become one of the most successful independent theatre companies in the UK and enjoy a global reputation for presenting small scale, pared down theatre to the highest possible standard. Officially the most highly nominated and awarded non-venue based, unfunded company presenting at the Edinburgh Fringe, it has accumulated 10 Scotsman Fringe Firsts, 1 Best of the Firsts, 2 Jack Tinker Spirit of the Fringe Awards, 3 Herald Angels, 3 Stage Best Actor Awards (plus 20 further nominations) and many other lesser awards. This tally is a testament to the enduring quality of the work presented by the company and its associates.
Its list of Edinburgh hits is extensive, many of which have toured domestically and internationally to great acclaim for well over ten years since their inception including Guy Masterson’s own performances of UNDER MILK WOOD and ANIMAL FARM, SHYLOCK (with Gareth Armstrong); PLAYING BURTON (with Josh Richards); BERKOFF'S WOMEN (with Linda Marlowe); and ADOLF (with Pip Utton) and many of TTI's imported works were among the hottest shows at their particular festival including SKIN TIGHT (1998), KRISHNAN'S DAIRY (1999), NUMBER 2, AMERICANA ABSURDUM (2000), HORSE COUNTRY, GONER, MOSCOW, THE COMPLETE LOST WORKS OF SAMUEL BECKETT (ETC) (2002)
The company's success culminated in Masterson's involvement in the Edinburgh Fringe’s 3 biggest theatre hits; 12 ANGRY MEN - cast entirely with stand-up comedians (inc Bill Bailey) conceived and directed by Guy Masterson broke all box office records at Edinburgh 2003 and set a trend for "big shows" which he emulated in 2004 with ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST (starring Christian Slater & Mackenzie Crook) This went on to 2 record breaking West End runs & a UK tour. With THE ODD COUPLE in 2005 (with Bill Bailey) for Assembly Theatre these remain the highest grossing plays of all time at the Edinburgh Fringe.
2009, Masterson originated & co-produced MORECAMBE (Winner: Scotsman Fringe First, Olivier Award for Best Entertainment 2010) and AUSTEN’S WOMEN.
In 2011, Masterson added SHYLOCK to his list of solo hits, opening in Adelaide and thence Edinburgh and again nominated for The Stage Best Solo Performance.
In 2012, the company produced THE HALF (Adelaide & Edinburgh) It also remounted A SOLDIER'S SONG, this time starring Ken Lukowiak.
2013 saw Masterson remount his smash performance of ANIMAL FARM for sell-out tours in Australia & UK, tour SHYLOCK through USA and co-produce THE ODD COUPLE which he both directed & played Oscar Madison.
In 2014 he his adaptation of ANIMAL FARM with Tumanishvili Film Actors Theatre of Tbilisi, Georgia won the Stage Award Best Ensemble at Edinburgh. 2016 marks the company's 23rd consecutive Edinburgh Festival.
