The Harbour of Rye is a fully operational commercial harbour with a large fishing and leisure fleet.
Rye Harbour is a unique asset for the Environment Agency being the only harbour in the country that we manage and operate.
Rye Port is a fully operational commercial harbour with a large fishing and leisure fleet.
James and Karl are our residential port masters. They are responsible for regulating the vessels in the harbour, maintaining the moorings and piloting larger vessels as they enter. Carl also forms part of the team when required. The team are accompanied by Toby the Dog, a happy and well fed spaniel who loves visitors.
The harbour masters boat can be seen on it's daily tours of the port during high tide and on occasion, braving the open waters to board the large vessels they then pilot into the safety of the port.
