A self-catering fisherman's cottage in the East Neuk
Heron House is situated in Cellardyke, a small village adjacent to Anstruther. It has a real community spirit and there is always something happening in the East Neuk. We are very fortunate to be about 20 metres from the local pub and you will not be disturbed by patrons late at night. It is a very tranquil spot and guests often remark that you can hear the waves.
The Fife Coastal Path runs along George Street so you can easily fill your days with walks to Crail, Elie or any of the many quaint little villages along our coastline. The views are spectacular and there is a route for all abilities.
Fife has a wealth of golfing opportunities and St. Andrews is a mecca for golf lovers. Anstruther has it's own 9 hole golf course which is "both a pleasure and a challenge to play".
If you enjoy fine dining then you will not be disappointed in the East Neuk. Try Michelin starred Sangster's in Elie where we had a fantastic meal this year. Or The Peat Inn which comes highly recommended by previous guests. For a more local fine dining experience The Cellar in Anstruther is an excellent fish restaurant with a very good reputation. If however you are more interested in the famous Anstruther fish & chips, then head for the queue outside the Anstruther Fish Bar. The High Tea is a family favourite with us. And we cannot fail to mention Janetta's ice-cream which you can sample at Janetta's, St Andrews or Lisa's on Anstruther Harbour (quite a wee bit cheaper and very healthy scoops!).
Have an adventure rock pooling at Cellardyke or head out on a sea kayak with East Neuk Outdoors. Enjoy a barbeque on the beach at Anstruther or watch the Hogmanay Fire Works at Cellardyke harbour.
