If you have a battery in your guitar, the voltage will be checked and recorded. The battery may be replaced if needed. (additional charge for new battery).
• Check Output Jack.
If your guitar has an Output Jack, it will be maintained to ensure it is working to it’s optimal ability. The jack socket will also be tightened.
• Lubricate Moving Parts.
Machine Heads, Tuning Machines and Adjustable Bridges will all be oiled to ensure maximum performance.
• Adjust the Truss-Rod for a Flat Neck.
This is prior to fret levelling to ensure a completely flat surface.
• Level the Frets.
The Frets are filed or ‘stoned’ remove any wear from excessive playing that may push your guitars intonation out. This process is done to match your guitars neck radius exactly.
• Crowning the Frets.
The fret is carefully crowned using special diamond files. Once this is done either side, the apex of the fret is rounded.
The frets then go through a careful and thorough sanding and polishing process until they perfectly rounded and level in relation to one another. This ensures perfect intonation across the whole fretboard.
• Clean and Oil the Fingerboard.
If your guitar has an Ebony or Rosewood fingerboard, it is cleaned and degreased. IT then goes through a fine oiling process to bring back the lustre and natural oils - and also minimises shrinkage!
If your guitar has a Maple neck, the fingerboard is only cleaned using a special polish.
• New Stings (included in Set-Up price).
Ian Easton Guitar Workshop will always supply and fit new strings to your guitar unless you specifically request otherwise.
• Tune Guitar.
Your guitar is initially tuned to bring the head, neck and body of your guitar up to the correct tension.
• Adjust the Truss-Rod.
The Truss rod located inside the neck of your guitar is adjusted to give the correct amount of relief. This counteracts the pulling/bending force that is being applied by the strings. The slight bow this generates ensures a perfect action and improved playability.
• Adjust the Bridge.
The string height at the 12th fret is adjusted at the bridge to give a optimum playing action for each string. Saddles on Acoustic Guitars may need raising or lowering.
• Adjustments at the Nut.
The 1st fret action is checked and adjusted to give the perfect string height and intonation. If the action is too low, the nut will be raised. If the action is too high, the nut will be filed so that the string sits lower in the nut. If the string sits too low into the nut, the nut will be adjusted accordingly.
• Re-Check the Action at the 12th Fret.
The action at the 12th fret is re-checked and adjusted in accordance with any nut height adjustments.
