We take inspiration and guidance from Yasuhiko Takemori Sensei (7th Dan Zaidan Hojin Aikikai, 8th Dan Zen Koku Iaido Renmei), a long term student of the late Nishio Sensei and we have developed links with Leif Sunje Sensei based in Sweden, a long term student of Takemori Sensei who has kindly supported us & taught at our dojo here in Scotland. We have also likewise travelled to Sweden to take part in training, and Germany also.
We also enjoy annual trips down to Staffordshire for the ARF national seminar with a chance to train with a diverse group of Aikido ka from various styles of Aikido and related arts. We are supported by Michael Sheridan Hanshi (ARF Chairman & Nippon Seibukan Dojo of Kyoto - Hombu for United Kingdom Shidoin) with visits to Scotland.
We also exclusively train in Zen Nippon Toyama Ryu Iaido Kyokai - Morinaga Ha 全 日本 戸 山 流 居 合 术 协会. This is Japanese swordsmanship only, a style derived from the Illustrious Toyama Military Academy in Japan. In Toyama Ryu Iaido we learn ways of drawing, cutting & re-sheathing the Japanese sword in a practical way, along with applying techniques in a realistic manner to include the practice of Tameshigiri (test cutting of targets).
We are the Scotland branch of the Special Branch of Great Britain/Scotland (European General Division - under the direction of Jose Miguel Martinez Barrera Hanshi). *** The Special Branch of Great Britain / Scotland, does not have anything to do with the United Kingdom Division, in terms of structure and function, both have autonomous action. The Special Branch of Great Britain / Scotland, is part of the European General Division and depends directly on the So-Hombu in Uji Kyoto, Japan, developing all its actions and activities, is exclusively for its members, in closed circuit.
