"To meet our clients highest expectations is our standard, to exceed them is our goal!"
With a diverse population of over 25,000, Bethnal Green is a district in East London that has enjoyed somewhat of a revival in recent years. Part of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, it was initially one of the pioneers of the silk-weaving trade throughout the 18th Century, attracting many Huguenot and Irish weavers to the region.
Despite substantial regeneration and gentrification over the last decade, the area affectionately known as ‘Beffnall’ has not forgotten its roots. For every boutique hotel and swanky art gallery, there is a gentleman sports bar or an old-fashioned café. ‘Unpolished gem’ and ‘diamond in the rough’ would still be apt descriptions when discussing this famous part of the capital.
The area has a large Bangladeshi community, accounting for the variety, vibrancy and colour of the shops and restaurants concentrated around Globe Road. Additionally, Roman Road and Bethnal Green Road offer plenty for eager bargain hunters. Trendy Shoreditch and Hoxton, with their vast array of bars, clubs and places to eat, are within walking distance, as are Spitalfields Market and Brick Lane (renowned for its plethora of curry houses).
Nearby Victoria Park, the city’s oldest purpose built public park, borders Bethnal Green and is the setting for a number of music festivals throughout the year. Sometimes known as the People’s Park, the 86.18 hectares of green space opened in 1845 and has recently undergone significant refurbishment. It is the perfect location to switch off from the stresses and strains of city life, with decorative gardens, wilder natural areas and open grasslands – a true gem.
Artists, designers, musicians and other creative professionals have set up shop in the neighbourhood’s old and disused warehouses, whilst the V&A Museum of Childhood is dedicated to children’s toys and collectibles. Ideal for both adults and children, this renovated Grade II listed building is the best place to head for a nostalgia-filled trip down memory lane.
With something to suit all budgets, Bethnal Green is an attractive proposition for young families seeking affordable housing close to Central London as well as young professionals and students looking for house shares. New and well-equipped apartment blocks would appeal to this latter demographic. There are also a wide range of flats, terraces, apartments and Grade II listed 2 and 3 bedroom houses catering to all tastes. Property here is the usual East End mix of Victorian estates and plusher Victorian mansion blocks.
Travel
With its own stop on the Central Line, the West End is only a 20 minute tube ride away. As well as being within walking distance of Liverpool Street, there are also National Rail services from Bethnal Green and Cambridge Heath. Additionally, the area is well-served by various bus routes.
Eating and drinking
E Pellicci may sound like a smart Italian deli, but it’s actually a classic, English Heritage listed ‘caff’. Dishing up traditional greasy spoon fare, this place is always heaving on weekends and provides an unbeatable, family-friendly atmosphere. Bistrotheque, which offers modern European food and excellent cocktails, is a more upmarket and pricey affair, whilst The Approach Tavern is everything you would expect of a typical London pub.
