RNLI Kippford operates a D-Class Inshore Lifeboat from the small coastal village of Kippford in Dumfries and Galloway.
1966
An inshore lifeboat (ILB) station was established at Kippford in May with a D class lifeboat. This was operational only during the summer months. The ILB was kept in a small boathouse at the top of a narrow lane leading down to the beach.
1977
A replacement boathouse was built by the lifeboat crew.
1999
The station became operational all year round.
2000
The D class lifeboat, D-553 David Whitehead, was placed on service on 6 July.
2005
HRH The Duke of Kent, President of the RNLI, was given a tour of Kippford lifeboat station on 18 July, meeting volunteer crew members and fundraisers.
2010
The new station D Class lifeboat D-718 Catherine was placed on service on 12 November. D553 has been withdrawn. The lifeboat was funded by a generous bequest. The naming ceremony for this lifeboat was held on 17 April.
