LIVES Medics & First Responders are all volunteers who give up their time to respond to emergencies in their community. So when you dial 999, not only will an ambulance be mobilised, but at the same time, the LIVES Medic or Responder on call in your area will also receive notification that you need their help.
The limited road networks surrounding the more isolated parts of Lincolnshire mean that many parts of this county often need to wait longer than others for an ambulance to arrive. These extra minutes are vital to a patient. In extreme circumstances this could mean the difference between life and death.
The bulk of LIVES’ income comes from charitable donations by the people of Lincolnshire. It costs approximately £4000 to train and equip a group of volunteers. Individual volunteers and local schemes will be expected to raise this for the equipment or training that they receive. Fund-raising efforts will therefore need to continue in order to support the First Responder Scheme but we are confident that individual communities will be able to raise funds specifically for their community to provide the development of pre-hospital care...........
We are extremely lucky to have 3 First Responders based in our village but also serving the surrounding area, but as the above information demonstrates, they are relying upon community support to aid their training and equipment requirements. Next week we hope to launch a dedicated FB & Instagram page and establish a Just Giving Page that will showcase lots of fundraising plans and appeal for your enthusiasm and help! We will also reveal our first target and what benefit reaching it will bring to our local group. In the interim - we'd be VERY interested to hear of any experiences people would be happy to share, where a LIVES First Responder has attended an emergency for themselves or maybe a family member. Please pm me for more information but rest assured no names/personal details will be shared. Insights and commendations of even a few words would be of valuable use.
