Looby Lou Designs was founded by Lucy Bowler in 2005 …….in the shed at the bottom of the garden!
I started by making hand felted, personalised canvases which make perfect gifts or add a touch of magic for your little one’s bedrooms.
I then started to design canvas kits for children to inspire them to make their own pictures and now have an ever growing selection of interesting craft products designed to inspire and educate your children!
As a BA Design Craft student, a mother of three and a designer maker, I absolutely support the introduction of craft at an early age.
Some of my earliest memories are of asking my grandma to teach me to knit and crochet, making dolls and sending paintings to Tony Hart!
As a child I was surrounded by wood and metal as my father has always restored classic cars and my mother has an interest in antiques and interesting textiles. I recognise that I had a great introduction to craft and I sincerely believe this has led to my interest now. I hope to pass this on through my children giving them the choice of pursuing this subject more.
That’s why it’s important to me that my products contain the loveliest fabrics, ribbons and the most interesting embellishments I can find. The packaging is fresh, useful and draws the eye!
Often children will create stories to go alongside pieces of craft work so creatively working in other areas too. I have written and illustrated story line instructions or poems within my products to encourage this learning of expression, visualisation, reading and writing skills.
This can also encourage self directed activity which I believe plays a crucial part in a child’s interest, confidence to think of their own “making” idea and being inspired without the need to be organised. So all my products are carefully designed to encourage the children to use their own creativity giving wonderful and varied finished designs!
I hope to encourage children to look around them and appreciate beautiful and interesting things…….
