We are a family run retail nursery offering a wide range of home grown shrubs, trees, herbaceous, climbers, conifers and fruit and a cosy tea rooms too.
The Nursery was started by Douglas Lowndes in 1937, it was already a small nursery and over time he added to it. The gardens a disused sand and gravel quary where added in 1950's and planted up with mainly ericaceous plants and trees and was used as the living catalogue. The nursery is now owned and run by his son Tim and his wife and their eldest son. The gardens have been revived over the last few years with new plantings for even more all year round colour . The gardens are open all year, entrance is by donation to the National Gardens Scheme.
There is plenty of parking, even enough space for coaches, although the frontage looks small there is masses behind.
We are also the home of Mac Penny Mist Propagation and the Mac Penny Long Life Label, the latter we still produce onsite
