One of the things that many residents find unclear is exactly which Council – Town, District or County – is responsible for what in the town. As a very rough guide:
The Town Council has responsibility for:
Amenity Areas
Irnham Road Recreation Ground, King George V Playing Field, Cross Farm Park, Periton Playing Field and Alcombe Marsh Common including the Rose Garden, Culvercliffe Play Area and Alcombe Combe.
Allotments
Six sites – at Marshfield Road and Harepark Terrace in Alcombe and at Poundfield Road, Periton Way, Periton Lane and Orchard Road.
Cemetery & Memorial
Minehead Cemetery is on the Porlock Road at Woodcombe. We also maintain the closed churchyard at St. Michael’s Church on North Hill and the War Memorials in Minehead and Alcombe. For other information contact The Town Hall on 01643 707213
Christmas Lights
Each year we organise the town’s Christmas lights, including the tree in Wellington Square and traders’ purchases of trees for above their premises.
Flowers
Organising floral displays in the town, including traders’ purchase of hanging baskets and other displays (except for the large beds and Parade planters which are provided by the District Council). Contact the Council 01643 707213 for more information.
