History of the Mount Pleasant Ponies

Mount Pleasant Ponies first began over 40 years ago when John & Eluned Davies got married, moved to Mount Pleasant, Treffgarne and bought two filly foals at Rhosmaen, Eglwyswrw. Two years later they bought their first stallion Mount Pleasant Simon, sired by Indian King. (During the next few years they had many foals.)
John Davies and his family then began to show the ponies around the local shows and were very successful.
In 1970 they took two mares to the stallion, Wingrove Minkino. Two foals were born, Mount Pleasant Valkino and Mount Pleasant Marigold. Valkino was a 12 hh chestnut gelding with four white legs. He won many prizes as a foal, yearling and later as a leading rein, 12.2 hh riding pony and many jumping classes.
He was still used in local pony classes and won many prizes in nursery stakes until his death in 2001 at the great age of 30.
Marigold was a 12.2 hh bay mare who was very successful around the shows and won two first prizes and a second prize at the Royal Welsh Show as a 12.2 hh Brood Mare. Her first foal out of Hebron Dancing Light, a 12.2 hh gelding, Mount Pleasant Dancing Duet was sold as a four year old and went on to win numerous working hunter pony and jumping classes. He also qualified and competed in Wembley in 1985. John Davies then took Marigold to the stallion Cusop Flamingo and was lucky enough to have three filly foals from her.
The first, Mount Pleasant Morning Star has been shown for many years and was champion of the Pembrokeshire County Show in 1979 as a yearling. She has also won two firsts and numerous seconds in the Royal Welsh Show. She has also won many prizes in local shows as a Brood Mare and in Part Bred Arab classes.
John Davies then purchased Towy Valley Zyliss for use with the many mares he had on the farm.
In 1990 Mount Pleasant Morning Star was covered with Trellech Courvoisier. She had many foals including a grey filly foal, Mount Pleasant Golden Dawn who has been very successful in the show ring.
She won first prize in the Royal Show as a three year old and also as a seven year old she won the Pony Breeding Championship at the Royal Welsh Show, the Pembrokeshire County show and many other local shows. She also had many foals including a bay filly foal, Mount Pleasant Arabella who has and still is very successful in the show ring.
As a 2 & 3 year old she was shown in hand successfully. She then went on to be produced as a 128 cm show pony climaxing her courier under saddle by winning first and reserve champion at Horse of The Year 2009. The following year she foaled with a beautiful filly foal and has been shown as a broodmare ever since.
In 1994 Rotherwood Wind-Fall was purchased to be used as a stallion. He was a 14.2 hh dark bay colt and was used until he died in the year 2000.
2004 saw a new stallion being purchased, Cusop Jeeves a five year old bay colt out of Cusop Dimension / Cusop Just So. We looked forward to see his young stock next year.
Many of the young stock have been sold over the years and you will often see Mount Pleasant Ponies competing in the showing, working hunter, gymkhana and jumping classes all over the country.
