Handmade washable rugs, crocheted / knitted, recycled into rugs from tweed waste. Hand sewn mice made from tweed fabric, all made in Ness, Isle of Lewis.

Hi, my name is Pam and I live on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides.

Mice have always been my ‘thing’ since I was young – real ones, ornaments (don’t ask me why!) and a mouse became my signature. So it made sense to make them out of tweed after coming to live in a place where sheep abound and the tweed industry is flourishing. My mice are just under 5 inches tall with secure tiny buttons for eyes, a variety of woollen tails and stuffed with woollen scraps. They come in a range of colours and traditional tweed fabric patterns.

As for the rugs – weavers were throwing away their wool ‘waste’ – the strips down the side of the fabric that gets cut off in the weaving process – and as I love crocheting it seemed a good idea to recycle it and crochet / knit it into rugs of all shapes and sizes, and many of my weaver friends have been happy to give me their waste. Some of the rugs are fluffier than others and make really nice warm, smallish blankets; others are more suitable for mats – bathmats, doormats, bedroom mats, car seat mats – whatever you like really! (but they can be a bit slippery on a wooden floor). All my rugs are washed before I sell them. Many of them are traditional greenish or blackish mixed with others colours, but I do sometimes get other colours.
