I have always loved baking and making things in general and have found since having my own kids, a creative outlet through their birthday parties.
Originally I found, like most busy parents that I had no spare time to bake birthday cakes and resorted to buying the mass manufactured supermarket ones. Lets face it they are fit for purpose - cheap, bright and not too offenssive - but nothing special and always a bit of a let down as they dont always taste great and at least 3 of the other 30 kids in the class at school will have the same. So I set about making my eldest son his 4th birthday cake and haven't stopped baking since. I learn something new with each cake I make and doubt that this will change.
