http://www.careerlifestylechoices.com/ Career Enjoyment - becoming aware of your natural talents and how they can be used to great effect at work.
Many people believe that Lifestyle is just about the size of their bank account and loads of leisure time. Whilst this is great, I also believe Lifestyle is all about being able to choose the life we want to live, which comes in many different guises. However, if you need to earn a living, I expect having a fulfilling career would be a major part of whether you are enjoying life or not. Many of us spend more time at work than with our family and friends. Before we know it, a 12 hour day has gone and a new one is about to start.
Not everyone enjoys these hours they spend at work - but you can.
When looking for an alternative career, many people are automatically drawn towards similar roles because they are familiar, but these roles are not necessarily the best choice for long term career satisfaction. If you are at a crossroads and are really wishing to find a career where getting up to go to work will be a joy and not a chore, the starting point is to know which activities are going to inspire and motivate you.
I am a 'baby-boomer', with a few good year's experience in the recruitment industry and I'm passionate about helping people find their career of choice. Nowadays, there are many more opportunities for everyone to do what they want to do and not work in a job for the job's sake.
I was introduced to the recruitment industry when it was in its infancy. Like many others at the time, I went to an agency for them to find me a job. I was lucky, my face fitted and they offered me the opportunity to train with them as a recruitment consultant.
Fast-forward 30+ years and I've experienced ‘ups and downs’ like anyone else. I've worked for corporates, I've worked for myself, I've experienced recessions and the following ‘booms’.
I have been an independent consultant now for 12 years having experienced redundancy during an industry downturn. Obviously this was not planned and it came at a particularly bad time but when is the timing right for redundancy? Overall, I did look upon it as an opportunity rather than a threat but I remember all too well that there were some really difficult days. Getting the mind and body back into gear isn’t easy and if you are in a similar situation - I know how you feel!
