PINNER 2002 FC INFORMATION
We were formed unsurprisingly in 2002 after we reached the age of 18 and could no longer participate in youth football for Pinner United. A lot of the current team were present in both the first ever Pinner United team at the age of 10 (1993-1994), as well as the formation of Pinner 2002 nine years ago, as well as still here today (2011)!!! That’s over 17 years together for some of us. Over the years we’ve gained players, lost players and one of the players has even returned after a 5 year gap this season.
We’re based on a group of mates who went to school together and got bigger when we went to colleges and jobs etc. We have a playing squad of 15-16 this season, but we also have people who train with us each week and these players are good back-up options too.
The age range is from 22 to mid 30s (our keeper doesn’t really admit his age) but most of us are around 27. We currently play in the Harrow Sunday Challenge league. We were in the Premier division for every season until this year when, after losing a lot of players to Saturday teams, we found ourselves in the premier league with a team of mates who weren’t at the same level as other teams. We therefore went the whole of last season without victory which was very demoralising but as mates, we stuck together and we now compete in the second tier of the league.
We started this season very slowly (no wins in first 8 games and just 2 draws) but since November we have turned things around and now sit in joint 6th with 30 points with a few games left. It is nice to be in a league where if we play well we win and if wont don’t we will lose. Last year, even if we played to our maximum then we were still likely to lose so this has raised moral and enjoyment this season massively.
Current player/manager is Dan Hurst, who took over at the end of last season. Rob Queenan is the captain this year and helps Dan deliver his tactics and ideas and try to keep the boys in line. Pinner 2002 F.C.’s home ground this year is Northwick Park Playing Fields, right next to the hospital (which is handy!). If you’re ever looking for something to do at 10.30 on a Sunday morning come down and watch.
