Plympton Community Council acts as a forum for all the community, voluntary and charitable bodies that meet in Plympton. First formed in 1977, the Council comprises representatives appointed by each constituent body. Ward councillors, lected members of Plymouth City Council, are also invited to attend. The Council meets 6 times a year to discuss matters of mutual interest and to promote events and other activities in the Plympton area. Since 1980 the Council has elected annually a "Stannator" to act as the civic and ceremonial focus for the community.
Constituent bodies pay a small annual subscription to the Council to fund administrative expenses and the City Council kindly allows free use of Harewood House for meetings and activities.
