From Owner Malcolm Dowson - I bought my first butcher’s shop in Church Way, North Shields, on 1st April, 1971. Things were very different in those days, no refrigerated counters or window, only a cold store out back.

I soon modernised the shop installing refrigeration, tiling etc. Trade increased rapidly and the shop became renowned for the quality of the meat and the reasonable prices.

Over the next 20 years I opened a number of shops throughout the North East, trading as Malcolm Dawson Quality Butchers. During this time I moved into the factory unit where I trade as Prime Cut. I have a shop attached to the factory which is open to the general public to purchase discount meat.

In 1992 I decided to sell the shops and concentrate on Prime Cut. Three of the shops still trade under my name, although I don’t own them. I do however supply them their meat so if you find yourself in North Shields (my original shop), Blyth or Gateshead, you can be sure of the quality of the meat. In 1999 my son joined me in the business. Also called Malcolm (big mistake) he is now taking over the day to day running of the business.

From our factory we have a number of vans supplying the catering trade, Restaurants, Takeaways, Hotels, Pubs etc.

So, our prices for meat and shellfish are excellent value. We have been constantly expanding our range to cater for an ever growing desire for high quality products all available from one store and our online delivery service has proved a huge hit.
