Railworld Wildlife Haven is a charity run place looked after by volunteers for all to enjoy in Peterborough. It is located beside the Peterborough Nene Valley railway station, but it is a separate organisation. Railworld has model railways, a nature haven and other exhibits.OverviewFounded in 1985 as Museum of World Railways, it changed its name in 1992. The centre is open between Easter weekend and the first weekend in November.ExhibitsAlco switcherRailworld has an American Alco S1 switcher diesel locomotive number 804. It is one of the five locomotives built by the American Locomotive Company for the Steel Company of Wales works at Margam.Danish PacificThere is also a Danish Pacific Vauclain compound, DSB No. 996 built by Frichs in the 1950s.Railworld has two vehicles that are unique: Tracked Hovercraft's RTV 31. The Birmingham Maglev vehicle (the only one that people can see and enter).Transeco CentreOver the next few years a new exhibition centre is being built called the Transeco Centre. This will promote sustainable transport as well as looking after the heritage vehicles.
