Rodney was a co-educational boarding and day school catering for pupils aged 8 to 18 of whom about half are boarders. The Principal was a member of the Independent Schools' Association (ISA) and the school was fully accredited by the Independent Schools' Council (ISC).

The school, which was founded in 1944, offered a full academic and social life for its pupils in extensive grounds which includes games pitches, tennis courts, county standard sports hall, lawns, gardens and woodland.
