24 hours of experiments with light, sound and place in the stunnning landscape of the Galloway Forest Dark Skies Park.
Sanctuary 2015 is a unique 24-hour site-specific public art laboratory, an experimental space that brings together new work ranging from light installations and radio transmissions, to digital video and performance. Artists and members of the public come together for 24 hours to form a temporary community within the beautiful Galloway Forest Dark Skies Park. The combination of the landscape, the artworks and the people make this a very special event and we’re looking forward to meeting you there.
The Galloway Forest Dark Skies Park is a specially designated area that is low in light pollution and Sanctuary takes place within the park. Remote, beautiful and mostly ‘electronically dark’, It is a sanctuary from both light pollution and world wide connectedness.
Sanctuary explories light and dark, linking to the International Year of Light, Sanctuary 2015 also explores 'electronic darkness' creating a space to investigate ideas around technology, place and culture. In the future will we need to desgnate places away from communication networks whare who we are and what we do is unknown?
Sanctuary is free. Camping available.
