As an experienced community based nutrition project, we aim to promote the health and well-being of individuals by encouraging healthy lifestyle choices.
Who is SCFI?
Skelmersdale Community Food Initiative was a Healthy Living Centre funded by the Big Lottery Fund from 2003 until 2008. Although described as a ‘centre’ SCFI is a network of initiatives working towards providing imaginative, practical and sustainable community based food projects. SCFI were successful in securing further funding through the Big Lottery Fund with a specific focus on wellbeing, ensuring access to fruit and vegetables and promoting healthy life style options especially cooking on tight budgets through our hands on cooking courses, one off taste and try opportunities and our parent and family cook and eat sessions.
Why was SCFI set up?
Like every area Skelmersdale has its own unique characteristics. Centred on basic amenities, the town’s residents have limited access to safe, affordable and nutritious food. SCFI was set up to help improve the quality of life for those living within Skelmersdale, by promoting activities that link physical, social and mental well-being.
