Mike Gage has started up his own Deer Study Centre in Wayford, near Crewkerne, and is keen to make it into an educational hive, where schoolchildren and families can come and learn more about the creatures.
He has permission to use a field on Dunsham Lane and the area is now home to his 150+ deer, which include the species Red Deer, Fallow Deer, Sika Deer, Roe deer, Muntjac and Axis Deer.
Mike Gage has been involved with deer for around 35 years. Before setting up in Wayford, he worked at a nature park in Tiverton.
He said: "My interest in deer first began when I was working down in Exmoor. On my drive home I saw some in a field, so went home and got my camera in order to take some pictures of them. I found I could get really close without disturbing them.
"I've since spent so much time with the creatures I can tell what they're feeling. Even though they're quite docile creatures, if deer are upset you're still best to stay away from them, but it's rare for mine to be like that."

Mr Gage bought into a deer herd 25 years ago and until now they lived on the reserve in Tiverton.
He said: "I used to travel out to Tiverton every day and I'm getting on a bit now, so moving my deer closer to home makes life a lot easier for me. I want this to be a place where families and children can come and visit. Over the years, I've learned a thing or two and plan to give talks and share what I know. I could also use it to host private parties.
"I want this to be good enough to get only as many visitor donations as are needed, to pay for deer food and vets fees.
The centre is on a hillside , the bottom of the site has a rustic cabin with hot drinks making facilities with indoor and outdoor seating.
You are welcome to bring picnics.....but Sorry NO DOGS.
Another shelter is at the top of the hill . The views are spectacular, even on a dull day. There is also a Nature walk around the side of the hill with a hide.

Non Profit Organization and exists solely to care for the deer in its care.
