Celebrating 175 years of Scottish photography in the home of Scottish Photography.
Festival runs 1 - 30 September 2017
Scotland has played an influential role in the field of photography from the earliest days. In the early 1840s photography came here through a close friendship between Fox Talbot and Sir David Brewster, then the principal of the United Colleges (now the University of St Andrews). Several notable St Andreans took up this new thing called 'photography' with great passion. Works by many of these early practitioners, most notably David Octavius Hill and Robert Adamson sit in archives around the world.
The St Andrews Photography Festival aims to celebrate a long line of Scottish photographers, historic and contemporary.
Approximately 15 non-traditional venues across town will be have their wall space taken over for this 4-week festival.
Additionally, we will be hosting events, talks, historic process demonstrations, workshops, competitions and much more. Keep an eye on our listing of events as dates are confirmed.
