Sunningdale Lodge B and B - 07738093636

Laid out to give you plenty of space, you will have a bedroom plus a sitting room (which can also be used as a single bedroom) and a shower room.

Accommodation

We have converted two downstairs bedrooms into our B and B area and made it a space that is both welcoming and sufficiently separate from the rest of the house to ensure that you'll be well looked after but still have privacy during your stay.

I'm a crime author and my husband is a musician - two careers that are renowned for being poorly paid! Our solution is to open part of our home for B and B and we are always delighted to meet our latest guests.

There are restaurants and shops in our village as well as a wealth of interesting places to visit all within a twenty minute drive - we are located in between Newmarket (5 miles), Ely (9 miles), Mildenhall (5 miles), Cambridge (15 miles) and Bury St Edmunds (15 miles). The world famous Wicken Fen is just 5 miles away.

Guest access

As well as your rooms there is a kitchenette/diner which you are free to use and it's OK to bring food in if you fancy a takeaway. When the weather's nice there's a table and chairs out on the patio... Actually it's there when the weather's awful too!

The house is no smoking but there's a veranda outside the front door and that's a pleasant and sheltered place to sit if you do like to smoke - or just chill out.

We are child friendly so, if you are travelling with youngsters we have a downstairs bathroom that you can use, extra bedding and plenty of space for bottles and food in the B and B fridge!

Interaction with guests

We're around quite a lot and always happy to put the kettle on and answer any questions but once we've checked you in we'll give you plenty of space to unwind too. If you'd like to chat then please do.

The neighbourhood

Fordham is a medium sized village just a few minutes from the A14. It was mentioned in the Doomsday Book and the village is criss-crossed with footpaths and some lovely walks on its outskirts too including the famous Chippenham Fen. In the village there's a Co-op, garage, beauty salon, Chinese restaurant, a butchers and 3 pubs which serve food. Fordham also boasts two garden centres - both with cafes that serve lovely lunches and through the summer there's a huge car boot sale on alternate Sundays. The National Trust's Wicken Fen is just five miles away.

Getting around

Public transport is a little limited but simple, buses run hourly during the day, one side of the road goes to Ely and the other goes to Newmarket and from there to either Bury or Cambridge. It is possible to buy a day ticket for the buses and see plenty of the local area. The nearest train stations are Ely (9 miles), Newmarket (5 miles) and Kennett (5 miles).

Other things to note

Our house is detached and set back from the road so it's a quiet place to stay. It is only a short distance to the centre of the village, check out what's there in 'The neighbourhood' section.
