Teddington Carpet Centre was originally founded in 1962 by Leslie Wilks and his two partners Henry Wooding and Ronald Rayner.
Les originally started out selling carpets, furniture and bedding for Garrud Brothers of Teddington following the completion of his service in the R.A.F in 1947. His career was to eventually span 50 years on Teddington Broad Street, and following his semi-retirement in 1997 he maintained an active role in the company until he recently passed away.
Les fondly remembered the original shop and how he struggled to buy stock when he first started out - 'I remember some of my suppliers relaxed their payment terms to help me get myself established'. Several of those same manufacturers are still represented in the store today.
In true family business tradition the running of the business is now entrusted to Les's son Rob, who claims he made his first cup of tea at Teddington Carpets as a Saturday-boy in 1978 - current staff members refuse to believe that Rob has ever made a cup of tea!
Rob maintains that the secret of success has been to prioritise the benefits a customer enjoys from dealing with a family run business, and to ensure service is a priority. Indeed, they enjoy first name terms with a great number of their clients.
As one would expect, the company's friendly team of sales and fitting staff boast countless years of experience in the flooring trade.
Today, Teddington Carpet Centre proudly offers a comprehensive collection of floors - including carpet, natural floorcovering, vinyl, laminate, Amtico, Karndean and Marmoleum - ranging from the modern and fashionable to the timeless and traditional.
To both the established clients who have dealt with us over many years and the new customers we have yet to meet - we thank you for your continued patronage and look forward to welcoming you to our showroom soon!
