Established in May 2016, The AMR Centre is a key part of the UK’s response to the global threat from Antimicrobial Resistance.

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is a global problem with resistance spreading ever more quickly. No new antibiotics have been developed for over 30 years, and bugs are evolving to become resistant to existing drugs.

300 million people are expected to die prematurely over the next 35 years because of drug resistance. This could cut global GDP by 3.5%, a cumulative cost of $100bn (£70bn).

Based at Alderley Park, the AMR Centre is a joint private-public initiative to support the development of new antibiotics and diagnostics through a fully integrated development capability, offering translational R&D from pre-clinical hits through to clinical proof of concept.
