The Bothy is situated in the heart of Kirriemuir which is a stunning town where the buildings are mainly made from red sandstone, hence it's nickname "the wee red toon". There are a number of wee local shops that you can wander around and also cafes to enjoy. Why not visit the famous Visocchis for a home made real Italian ice cream or the star rock shop a traditional sweetie shop where you will find all your old favourites.

If you enjoy exploring, cycling, walking, hill climbing and eating in country pubs then you'll be pleased to know that Kirriemuir is also regarded as the "Gateway to the Glens" with Glens such as Clova, Isla and Prosen on your door step.

If history or tourist attractions are more your thing, then you might wish to explore the famous Glamis Castle which is situated only 5.5miles from Kirriemuir and holds regular events throughout the year such as The SVVC Transport Extravaganza and Glamis Prom.

Kirriemuir was famously home to J.M Barrie, author of Peter Pan and you can visit the Peter Pan statue and J.M Barrie's birthplace within the town centre.

If your more of a rocker, then we are also proud to claim Bon Scott, lead singer from AC/DC as one of our own. Famously raised in Kirriemuir before becoming a world famous rock star we celebrate his connection to our wee toon each year. You can come along to Bonfest on May day bank holiday next year (2016) starting on Friday April 29th. Be quick. This event and accommodation sells out very quickly and if you snooze, you lose!

Kirriemuir is also known for it's love of Folk music and traditionally a festival is held each year on the first weekend of September, bring an instrument and join in with the music and song within the pubs of Kirriemuir.
