The Greengrocer is a local family run business, owned by Philip Hebdon and his wife Angela.

Philip is the fourth generation of the Hebdon family in this greengrocery business which can be traced back more than 100 years.
Previous generations were market gardeners who took their produce to sell in local markets at York, Thirsk and Northallerton.

Although Philip no longer grows produce for sale he spent many of his early years helping to grow and harvest crops for the family business. He has a deep understanding of fresh produce and is passionate about supplying the best quality fruit and vegetables to his customers.

Philips sister Jill also works in the shop and there is a small team of dedicated and hardworking staff who work alongside the family.

Many of the younger staff have started by ‘helping out’ on Saturdays and have taken full time posts after leaving education. So even some of the ‘young’ staff have many years of experience.

While Philip is concentrating on sourcing produce, the daily running of the shop is managed by Fiona and Jane who both have a great deal of knowledge of the fresh produce industry.
