CHEPSTOW AND CALDICOT LIONS CLUB

Chepstow and Caldicot Lions Club is part of Lions Club International, the Worlds largest Service Club Organisation, there are over 47,000 clubs in 207 countries with approximately 1.35 million members.
It is one of the most effective organisations of its kind in the world , the members do what ever is needed to help their communities locally and Internationally.
Whether it is helping the senior citizens who don’t have enough to eat or supplying recycled spectacles to children in third world countries, and ensuring that people have the opportunity to drink clean water.
The Lions Vision is to be the Global Leader in community and humanitarian service.
Chepstow and Caldicot Lions was founded in 1971 by a group of local businessmen, today the club is made up of over 20 members from all walks of life, and coming from an area that includes Magor, Caldicot, Chepstow, Tintern, Sedbury,Cwmbran and other surrounding villages
The club holds its business meeting on the first Wednesday of each month at Dewstow Golf club, these meetings are used to discuss fund raising projects, considering support financially or physically to individuals or organisations in the community.
On the third Wednesday of the month the club holds a dinner meeting in the golf club at which there is always a guest speaker, and every third month the members wives join them for dinner.
The Ladies and partners of the Lions are also very active in raising money and distributing to those in need, although they work closely with the men, several of their projects are also independently run.
It is hoped that from all fun raising events and donations that the club can raise between £10,000 and £15,000 pounds each year.
Who do Chepstow and Caldicot Lions help?, the club aim to spend 80% of monies that they raise goes to individuals or organisations within their district, there is a high emphasis on youth, supporting the elderly or those the health services seem unable to assist.
Local beneficiaries include the Berkeley Centre, Chepstow Community Hospital, Caldicot Health Clinic, Social Services, local schools, SARA (Severn Area Rescue), The Scouts, Guides, Soccer Clubs and Stroke Groups. Crick Care Home, Chepstow Family Support , Red Robin Nursery, Toxic Shock Appeal ,and many more.
Each Christmas the Lions can be seen inside all the local supermarkets collecting donations of food for the elderly and those less fortunate, Christmas 2014 saw a record number of 160 parcels of food go into the community.
Internationally funds have been sent to Africa for the fight against Ebola, to Sight First to pay for cataract operations, and Water Aid, as well as the disaster fund for the Philippines.

To aid the club in continuing its work they would welcome new members, anyone who thinks they can give a little of their time to helping others.
Lion President Nigel Gibby is quoted as saying “ New members are always welcome at the club, and will help the club fulfil its obligations to the Local and international community into the future”
