Peter and Esther van Delft run an established wholesale nursery propagating and supplying “liners” (young plants of shrubs, climbers, perennials, and grasses) to the trade. Started in 1961 by Peter’s father the nursery supplies growers all over the UK, Ireland and Europe. New plants originating from the nursery are licenced to propagators worldwide. The nursery also selects new plants (which under licence) are grown for the benefit of its own customers.

The number of people visiting the nursery to buy nursery fresh plants grew to such an extent that it became necessary to open a dedicated retail nursery. With the benefit of the nursery’s experience and knowledge Peter and Esther opened in the spring of 2006 the “ Potting Shed Nursery”. Their passion for plants and an understanding for traditional service, quality and value for money makes the plant centre a treat for the plant lover. Sue joined the business in 2008 and has helped develop the business in the area’s that Peter and Esther feel so strongly about. Sue’s expertise and friendly nature makes buying a plant a pleasure and is combined with the after sales help that many people wish for.

Offering an exciting range of shrubs, climbers, perennials, patio and bedding plants, fruit and vegetable plants and trees there is something for everyone who comes and visits. On display in the spring and summer are a range of made up baskets to entice anyone to the gardening experience at a cost that would surprise most. They also offer the service of planting up customers hanging baskets and planters.

The nursery and plant centre grows under environmentally sympathetic controls using biological methods. Natural predators are used where possible for the control of pests and diseases. An extensive range of wildlife is apparent on the nursery where bird boxes have been sited to encourage nesting and since the change of environmentally sustainable practices an increase in the range of species has been noticeable. All plastic waste is sent away for recycling, green matter such as plant pruning’s and surplus compost is composted and re-used as a soil improver.
