Thornthwaite is a 500 acre estate situated in the unspoilt Woodland Valley, explore ancient woodlands, flower meadows, and our private fishing lake. Stay in our 4 Star Cottages or Log Cabin with stunning views of the Lakeland fells. Ideally situated for walking, cycling or relaxing, with many walks from your cottage door.

Within easy reach of the main attractions, however if you need to get away from it all and relax in a friendly atmosphere our farm is perfect.

The cottages are ideally situated for those wishing to go walking or cycling or just relaxing, with many walks from your cottage door. Being in a quieter corner of the Lakes, you easily avoid the worst of the traffic often associated with the central Lake District. As we are not too far from the likes of Coniston, Ambleside or Grizedale forest so there is plenty to do and see within the local area.

As part of our little piece of the Lake District, we also have 150 acres of woodland, areas of rare raised bog as well as traditional hay meadows. We recently received an award for our environmental policies. The area is a bird watcher’s paradise, with wildlife including deer, foxes and badgers.
