Tigh A Gen “Tigh a’ Gen” is a traditional stone built croft house recently renovated in such a way that reflects the history of the building. Solid stone walls of considerable thickness are rendered and pointed in the style of the period; sitting within the original chimney in the main living room is a solid fuel stove which provides heat and hot water for the cottage. This is supplemented by electric storage and water heating.
The house is two storey bulding , with double bedroom on the ground floor and large family room upstairs (containing a double and single bed and fold out single bed), bath/shower room and living room and separate kitchen area. Suitable for a family sharing. See plan.
Overlooking the township of Bruernish in Barra, this small self catering cottage is situated at the end of the Upper Bruernish road, offers panoramic views of the hills of Barra to the west, while the views to the back of the building overlook the Minch with views of Bruernish Hill and looking east to the island of Rhum.
The house has an enclosed garden area and is situated in a quiet location at the end of Bruernish road. Tigh a’ Gen is located six miles from Castlebay and four miles from Barra Airport and the Ardmhor Ferry Terminal. Less than 1 mile is Heathbank Hotel, which offers excellent food throughout the tourist season.
