A positive local response to declining energy supplies and a changing climate
Transition Stroud is a volunteer-led organisation operating throughout the Stroud district
We develop practical ways to reduce our environmental impact and reliance on fossil fuels
We raise awareness of the issues by organising events, classes and workshops
We equip people with the skills they will need in the future
We encourage people to take action to build a better future for all, as we come to terms with the reduced availability of cheap oil and the effects of climate change
The end of cheap oil is in sight. Currently our lives depend on the abundance of oil and other fossil fuels: for travel, heating, manufacturing and food production. As demand for oil starts to outstrip supply ('peak oil') there are significant impacts on our day-to-day life.
Fossil fuel use has also caused changes to our climate that disrupt natural systems and human livelihoods around the world, including here in Stroud.
Transition is about recreating our future based on local food, sustainable energy, local economies and an enlivened sense of community well-being.
Transition Stroud is one of over 1000 similar initiatives around the world. Together, these small-scale responses make up something much bigger and help show the way forward for governments, businesses and the rest of us.
